About this Event

Legendary flamenco guitarist Paco Peña presents Patrias, a truly personal new work. Through music, dance, song, poetry and projections Peña explores the emotional, physical and cultural impact of the Spanish Civil War.

Poet, artist, playwright and musician Federico García Lorca was one of the war’s most tragic casualties. His life and work are the inspiration for this powerful, passionate and emotionally raw creation.

‘Patria’ (motherland) evokes pride in who you are and where you are from. The title of this show is plural, Patrias, to highlight the opposing ideologies existing at the time, which influenced the outbreak of the war.

Peña and his host of virtuoso flamenco musicians and dancers honour this concept and Lorca’s legacy, taking the audience on a poignant journey through the experiences of the Spanish people during the three-year conflict.

“Inspired by one genius and brought to life by the music of another. Truly beautiful and truly tragic” Daily Mail
