About this Event
11 January at 19:30–22:30 Wednesday 11th January 2017 - 7:30pm for 8pm start Caves, Malt Cross, 16 St James Street, Nottingham, NG1 6FG
Crosswords is a new-ish Spoken Word event held in the Caves underneath the Malt Cross in Nottingham, with plenty of open mic slots and a featured poet every month! In January, our featured performance comes courtesy of Hazel Monaghan.
Hazel is a poet, actor and musician from Nottingham. She began exploring spoken word whilst playing in the hiphop/ska band Bare Knuckle Beatbox in 2012. Hazel comes from the oral tradition of folk music, and after winning the Gate to Southwell Folk Festival slam in 2016 has been steam-rolling towards a one-woman show and a poetry collection. On 11th January, she'll be poeting her way towards answers to: How do we create conversation between people, places and languages? Can we live in the wilderness between the contrary parts of ourselves? How do we stay wild, and revel in imbalance?
Arrive at 7:30pm on the night to book your five-minute open mic slot. We like poetry, prose, storytelling, a cappella singing, and monologues! Or just come along to listen - everyone's welcome!
Entry to Crosswords is £2 per person, and refreshments will be available (for anyone who needs a little glass of something before taking to the stage).
All ages and abilities are welcome, with no obligation to perform. Doors open at 7:30pm for an 8pm start.
See you there!
CrossWords is hosted by local poet Leanne Moden, and supported by the Malt Cross.
