About this Event

Our monthly film night is a themed programme of old films, introduced by local expert with a passion for the movies.

Kieran Foster is a PhD Researcher and associate tutor at De Montfort University (DMU), specialising in horror films and the unmade projects of Hammer Films. He has written extensively on these projects and is the co-editor of a forthcoming book on unmade films entitled Shadow Cinema, to be published by Bloomsbury. Outside of academia, Kieran has worked in cinemas for over a decade, working in three venues in his hometown of Scarborough North Yorkshire and was a marketing assistant at the Phoenix Cinema in Leicester until 2017. The film this month is:-

THE HAUNTING (ROBERT WISE 1963) 12 – Dr. John Markway, an anthropologist with an interest in psychic phenomena, takes two specially selected women to Hill House, a reportedly haunted mansion. Eleanor (Julie Harris), a lonely, eccentric woman with a supernatural event in her past, and the bold Theodora (Claire Bloom), who has ESP, join John and the mansion’s heir, cynical Luke (Russ Tamblyn). They are immediately overwhelmed by strange sounds and events, and Eleanor comes to believe the house is alive and speaking directly to her.
