As the First World War got underway, Britain's very first on-shore oilfield was to be established here in the Chesterfield area 100 years ago. Hear why this area was selected, about the wells drilled from Ridgeway and Renishaw, to Brimington, Heath, Tibshelf and Alfreton. How much oil and gas they found, how deep they went, what problems occurred. Hear particularly about the truly historic well that was to be so successful, sunk at Tibshelf, and which produced oil right through for 25 years until the end of WW2. Britain's very first successful deep oil well.
