Nostalgic and visionary music by our two great English pastoral composers: Elgar’s exquisite Serenade for Strings, his Overture transcribed for glorious full orchestra from Handel (fulfilling a childhood dream) and then, for choir, soloist and orchestra, Vaughan Williams’s enchanted star-gazing Serenade to Music and Elgar’s Music Makers, full of famous melodies, elegiac lyricism, splendour and celebration.
