About this Event

Sick is a bittersweet, bizarre and highly entertaining hour-long one-woman show about the impact of four years of cuts to the National Health Service. Storyteller Shey Hargreaves draws on her real life experience of working as a receptionist on a busy emergency unit to explore the way that austerity impacts on patients, the staff who care for them, and their families and friends. Interwoven with true stories from the organised chaos of an emergency unit are snippets of how working in such a highly pressurised environment shaped the artist as a young adult.

The show is a study of what makes us human, a coming-out story, and the funniest and most approachable call to political arms seen onstage in recent years. Sick continues to draw audiences made up of medical professionals, non-medical professionals who enjoy comedy, storytelling and theatre that explores social and political issues, and members of the LGBT community, in particular LGBT parents who are keen to see alternative family structures represented in the British arts scene.
